What is CoQ10 you ask?
We have all heard that supplementing with CoQ10 is important; today I hope to give you some clear and concise reasons as to why.
First and foremost, it’s Important for Natural Energy Production.
Your body is made up of millions of tiny cells, each organ is made up of cells and each has a specific task to perform. To complete their jobs, cells need energy (cellular energy).Ninety-five percent of the human body’s energy is generated this way. So yes, CoQ10 is pretty important if for no other reason than it helps keep us going.
One study published last year in the journal Nutrition revealed findings of a Japanese study. Researchers tested the impact CoQ10 supplementation had on physical exertion, or more specifically, high degrees of physical exertion. What they found was that CoQ10 did have a positive effect in lowering recovery time and reducing subjective fatigue sensation in the study participants.
CoQ10 Supports Heart Health.
Clearly, the heart is one of the most important organs in your body. It is responsible for pumping blood throughout your entire body hour after hour. Therefore, one of the largest concentrations of CoQ10 in the human body is found in the heart.
CoQ10 Production Decreases with Age.
Like so many other natural processes, natural CoQ10 production in your body appears to decrease as you get older. According to the Mayo Clinic, using CoQ10 dietary supplements can help make up for the decreased production in your body.
Another buz word we have been hearing is Ubiquinol. I hope to shed some light on this as well. Keep reading!
Ubiquinol, is the reduced form of CoQ10, or ubiquinone. Ubiquinone exists in nature and received its name because it’s ubiquitous; it’s present in every cell of our body, especially those that need a lot of energy like the heart.
Most of the CoQ10 found circulating in the blood is in the active, reduced form called Ubiquinol. When we’re young, we have no problem converting ubiquinone to ubiquinol. However, as we age we lose some of this ability.
Ubiquinol helps to spark 95% of the cellular energy in our bodies and to make all our systems work. It’s probably one of the most important supplements we can take as we get older because our bodies start changing. As we age we produce less and convert less.
It is important to understand how our bodies work and how they change. I hope this helped explain the importance of CoQ10 in a way that was clear. Please do discuss this with your physician or other health care professional.
